Mother-of-pearl veneer, gilt-bronze and gilt-copper mounts, kingwood and spindle wood veneered base, with engraved and painted ivory, on a poplar carcase.
By about 1740, the most luxurious Italian furniture was being produced in Turin, in the workshop of Piero Piffetti (1700-1777). Piffetti had been cabinetmaker to the kings of Sardinia since 1731.
