Who recognises Cambridge ESOL examinations?

The Cambridge ESOL examinations are recognised by thousands of employers, universities & colleges, professional bodies and ministry & government organisations throughout the world.

They are linked to the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) levels and to the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and are the only certificated examinations referred to in the framework document as specifically linked to it by a long-term research programme.

They can open doors to higher education, improve job prospects and, because the qualifications are so well known globally, increase mobility.

Employers and Professional Bodies

Siemens, Sony, GlaxoSmithKline, Nestlé, Microsoft, Adidas and Coca-Cola are among some of the international organisations who have used Cambridge ESOL examinations as a benchmark to establish the English language abilities of their staff and for training purposes. More than 2,500 employers around the world are using Cambridge ESOL qualifications.

Professional bodies, such as the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK and the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB), require an IELTS band-score for entrance purposes.

Universities and Colleges

Over 200 universities & colleges in the UK recognise the English language ability demonstrated by the award of a Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or IELTS 6.0, 6.5.

Ministry & Government Organisations

Cambridge ESOL qualifications are recognised at different levels by Ministry and Government organisations for many purposes, such as the recruitment of government officials and for training teachers in the State School sector.

Why take FCE?

FCE is ideal if you want to work or study abroad or to develop a career which requires language skills (e.g. business, medicine, engineering). FCE indicates sufficient proficiency in English to be of practical use in clerical, secretarial and managerial jobs in many industries, in particular tourism, where contact with English speakers is required. Successful candidates have the ability to deal with routine letters and telephone enquiries, and to cope with some non-academic training courses and simple textbooks and articles.

FCE is also useful preparation if you are working towards higher level exams, such as CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) and CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English).

On passing the exam you will receive a certificate awarded by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, which is recognised by universities and employers throughout the world.

You will also receive a statement of results, showing how you performed in each of the five papers.

What does the exam involve?

FCE has five papers:

Reading
Writing
Use of English
Listening
Speaking
Each of the written papers is returned to Cambridge for marking and assessment. The Speaking Test is conducted by two locally based examiners who examine you face to face. All examiners are accredited by Cambridge ESOL.

Reading (Paper 1), 1 hour 15 minutes

This paper assesses your ability to read and understand texts taken from fiction and non-fiction books, journals, newspapers and magazines. You are expected to be able to show understanding of gist, detail and text structure, and deduce meaning.

Writing (Paper 2), 1 hour 30 minutes

This paper assesses your ability to write non-specialised text types such as letters, articles, reports, compositions and reviews of 120-180 words covering a range of topics and target readers and also set texts.

Use of English (Paper 3), 1 hour 15 minutes

This paper requires you to demonstrate your knowledge and control of the language system by completing various tasks at text and sentence level. These include filling gaps, transforming words and phrases, and identifying errors in texts.

Listening (Paper 4), 40 minutes (approx.)

This paper assesses your ability to understand the meaning of spoken English, and to extract gist and meaning from spoken text. The texts are taken from a variety of text types including interviews, discussions, lectures and conversations.

Speaking (Paper 5), 14 minutes (approx.)

The Speaking Test assesses your ability to interact in conversational English in a range of contexts. It contains four parts, including an interview section, individual long turns of about one minute, a collaborative task and a discussion. You are provided with stimulus material such as photographs and drawings. You will normally take the Speaking Test in pairs.

це ж тобі не просто екзамен там якийсь а це серйозно то трохи нижче за рівнем ніж тоефл то рівень upper intermediate. a тоефл здається advanced. ще я так би мовити аналог тоефл з тої самої опери шо мій FCE, але він називається CAE-certificate in advanced english. його я і хочу здати на другий рік. кажуть шо якшо добре зданий FCE то це дуже суперове тренування до CAE. ось так

зайди в нет подивися. а взагалі цей сертифікат діє вічно його не тре перездавати як тоефл. його визнають в багатьох навчальних закладах європи. інколи як хочуть кудись на навчання то там потребують сертифікат який би засвідчив знання. а також це дуже добре якщо влаштовуватися кудись на серйозну роботу. бо це кембріджзький екзамен. і його приймали британці.

а що воно дає?

люди!!!!! моя порада вам на майбутнє! не бійтеся йти до того шо вважається на пергий погляд недосяжним!!!! то ж я крута цей сертифікат визнають в багатьох навчальних закладах європи! на другий рік буд здавати трохи вищий за рівнем екзамен!!!! ;) а тепер хочу почати вчити німецьку.

яка я рада!!!!!!!!!!!! до речі ліміт того рівня 75-79%. прикинь! це означає шо я наюрала досить таку конкретну кількість відсотків!!!!!!!! я не можу повірити яка я молодець!!!!!!!!! я розраховувала шо здам буду мати C, бо хлопака який вже здавав цей екзамен є досить мудрим в інгліш мав С. а я його випередила і ще й там такі результати шо мені здається шо то майже А!!!! ;) треба бути прсото впевненим в своїх силах і ти досягнеш того чого хочеш!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

я хочу на перший тиждень і все бо в нас нова група. мені цікаво як мені буде з нмии вчитися... а так то не хочу мені багато розказали про нших теперішніх викладачів... :(((
