ZZZINTERVIEW!!!!!

MR. Meats, I must say I am thrilled to have the opportunity to
interview
you!

That Being said what do you prefer to be called.. hehe?

I always go by Meats, except when I showing my ID to a police officer,
in that case I am James. I'm eventually going to have it legally
changed. Mjk gave me some good advice about keeping your real name in
there someone, so I'm sure I will go that route.

>It seems to me that your work with Tool has been over looked and it
seems that Maynard is embracing you and your
talent with The Puscifer videos! Do you think these videos will ever
get
air play on (ack) tv music channels?

That's the story of my life, overlooked..heh. Just kidding really, I
feel really good about the amount of feedback that I've been getting
since becoming a member of the TOOL family. Anything more and it would

be distracting. It's been great working with Maynard on the Puscifer
stuff. I used to think that I was a work-a-holic. He has so many ideas

and plans that it's hard to keep up. I've heard the first video was
playing on the TV somewhere, I didn't catch the details. I'm not sure
it's not the style on video that gets the main airplay nowadays anyway
-
I mean it's not about a bunch of hard-asses dancing at a party showing
their gold chains and diamonds...and the speeding off in a rented
Ferrari.

>>>Could you give us a wee bit of insight into your process...

I just enjoy my creative time -my process is less like giving birth and

more like releasing some uncomfortable gas, it feels great to get out.
Technically, I work completely in 3d, I never sketch on paper and then
build, I just directly free-flow build and sculpt inside the computer.
I basically am building 3d wireframes and then adding detail as I go. I

can texture and color the objects any way I like and then light them to

add realism. I can bring life to the character by building little
digital skeletons and then moving them around and keyframing thier
actions. I don't know if that made sense, part of what I do is creating

instructional videos for the visual effects industry and am used to
speaking in that language.

>>>In particular The Talking Boards Hologram you did.. HOW IN THE HELL

DID YOU DO THAT! Simply AMAZING!

The holographic motion art that I've been doing lately has me very
excited. I teamed up with a company called Rabbit Holes Media that are
the sole owners of the new technology that makes it possible. The tech
itself is the ability to create full color holograms that can be seen
with the naked eye, and contain about 10 seconds of animation that
plays
as they are viewed from the different angles. I will be creating a
full
series of holograms soon, we are learning more and more about what is
possible. It's really cool to try and push a new art-form. Escpecially

one that I know will really take off. Everyone that sees one in person
is really very blown away when looking at the art. It also has actual
depth, things stick out of the frame out recede back into it. It's cool

for me to finally be able to show my 3d art the way it was meant to be
seen - the way I see it when I am creating it - in 3D! That's also why

I was so stoked to work with Adam on the stereoscopic artwork for the
10,000 days cd cover artwork.

>>>Who are your artist heros alive as well as dead..?

Hmmm, so many really. Of course I like the Giger a lot, and Alex Grey.

Chet Zar and Cam De Leon of course are up there as well. I guess it's
not so strange that I enjoy the work of the various TOOL artists.
There
are also a lot of excellent digital artists out there working on really

cool stuff, like the artist Taron, who programs art creation tools and
then can create amazing artwork using them. Rick Baker, the famous
effects sculptor is also someone who I really look up to.

>>>Your sense of humour seems to click with that of the MJK enigma...
Do you see a long lasting relationship with his Puscifer project and
future collaborative entities?

I will work with them/for them until they get sick of me :)
It's funny because I really do think that I do click nicely with a lot
of Mjks ideas, and at the same time fit really well with Adams darker
vibe as well. I feel like my art has parts of both worlds, and it
always has. I feel at home working with them, and honored at the same
time. There is no lack of creativity going on in any part of the TOOL
world it seems.

>>>You are an enigma where current artists are concerned and Einstein
among the pack. How do remain so grounded and humble?

Well, I guess it just comes down to the true belief that I haven't
really done anything to the level that I believe that I am capable
of...yet! Once I do, I will be cockier than Mike Tyson on crack. I've

spent the last 10 years of my life studying this new art form - 3D and
digital, that is just barely starting to come into it's own. There is
lots of work to do and no time really for puffing my chest up over the
various small successes that have come my way. Also, karma has no room

for a the braggart type. Life always knocks you down when you need it.

>>>Have you ever thought about some kind of 3D experiance beyond the
talking board hologram.. perhaps something IMAX or even a travelling
experiance for those of use who can't get to your shows?

I got my start working in video games, I was a lead artist for 6 years
at a game development studio called Beyond Games in Salt Lake City,
Utah. Doing that really exposed me to the power of virtual reality. At

least the eventual power of virtual reality. We aren't quite there yet.

I've always planned on creating my own worlds. If you think people are

addicted to video games now, you haven't seen anything yet. Once the
experience is immersive, it will go to a whole new level. Everyone
panic! Or get excited.

>>>Will you be working with other bands in the future?

My art is on about 30 or so covers of band around the world. Most are
no
or low name bands. I have a lot of artwork on my website and I get a
lot of requests. They all are about the same - Hi we are ******* from
*****. We would love to use your image **** on our new CD. We are a
poor band and cannot afford to pay...etc. I'm always cool about them
letting bands use my work. As long as they link to me somewhere and
give me a credit, I just consider it advertising.
As far as bigger name bands, there has been some interest, but I'm
super
busy and can't even think straight as it is..

Here is where you can plug your 3D art sites,etc.. Have at it! We need
to know MORE! GIVE US MORE!

My main portfolio site is www.3dArtSpace.com, it has a bunch of my
animations and artwork that I've done over the years. My animations are

mostly live footage with 3d elements composited into them, like they
were always there. I use a lot of the techniques that are used in the
creation of feature films. I learned some of them while working on
"Hellboy" and also the movie "Sky captain and the World of Tomorrow".

Time for the nonsense questions..

Favorite track from V is for Vagina?

Trekka

>>>Do you own a Puscifer belt buckle?

Heh, no. My birthday is coming up 'tho...

>>>Have you ever gotten 'wasted' on Caduceus wine?

Not drunk exactly, but I drank my share. I don't usually like wine, but

I was quickly aquiring a taste for it.

>>>Where in the hell do you get your ideas.. and do believe in ALIENS?

Your thoughts on the MAYA and 2012?

Creativity is like a muscle, the more you use it, the sharper and
quicker it gets. In my line of work, I have to come up with ideas
quickly and add to clients needs if neccasary. Funny you combined this

question with Aliens. It probably does have something to do with that
I
suppose.
As far as the Maya and the 2012 earth deadline, yeah, I think and talk
about it a lot. I live like that really will be my last day on earth.

Maya is also the name of my main 3d package, and what my last name
sounds like when spoken quickly. I got nothin' ;)

>>>>We will be keeping a close eye on you MR.Meats to see all your
future works!

I Bow once again to your greatness.. By the way.. we are both
Aquariuses!.. Tell MJK and Adam Jones "great taste in artists!!!!

Reporting for Toolology 101.. 'A less wordy website!' (We like them,
there pictures and such!)

Good health to you and yours!
