Фотожурналист Питер Тернли (Peter Turnley) в первую очередь известен своими документальными фотографиями вооруженных конфликтов. Он также много фотографировал в беднейших странах. Мало какое всемирно важное событие не было им заснято. Фото Питера Тернли 43 раза появлялись на обложке американского Newsweek.

Вторым домом для Питера стал Париж – «город огней», как он сам называл французскую столицу. Художгик признаётся, что влюбился в Париж с того самого момента, когда впервые в нём побывал. Сначала он приехал в город на несколько месяцев в 1975 году, будучи 20-летним начинающим фотографом. А через несколько лет переселился в столицу Франции и фотографирует на её улицах уже сорок лет. Результатом этого романа с городом стала книга «Французский поцелуй – любовное письмо Парижу».

За свою долгую фотожурналистскую карьеру Тёрнли объездил более 90 стран. Основная направленность его съёмки – документирование военных, политических и других событий исторического значения. Возвращаясь после очередного репортажа домой, Париж каждый раз напоминал ему, как прекрасна и удивительна может быть жизнь, несмотря на все тяготы и проблемы в мире. И Питер Тёрнли продолжал фотографировать жизнь на улицах города и на берегах Сены.

Тёрнли говорит, что, пожалуй, ни в одном другом месте мира городской пейзаж так явственно не представляет собой бесконечное выражение красоты любви и её силы. Она проявляется через нежные поцелуи и объятия, которые можно увидеть публично, буквально в любом месте, в любое время, всегда.

22. Franky and Clara-never a last tango in Paris. Passion knows no age! Franky and Clara have been partners in love and life and on the dance floor for the past 8 years. When I asked them how long they'd been together, they laughed and said, “do you want to know only how many years – we can tell you the time of the day, the week, the month, and the year we met”. I asked them what made them such good tango dancers-and Franky said to me – “many people come to the floor and think of the steps-we know the steps, but we liberate ourselves from them”. The Franky's and Clara's of this world are my heroes – the light of their spirit is my lighthouse and my compass. There will never be a last tango in Paris for Franky and Clara. 42. Cafe passion. On my way to dinner tonight, I noticed this moment of a passionate cafe kiss as I walked by the Perla Bar. After making this photograph-I waited until they were done kissing and rattled lightly on the window and showed the photograph to this couple, Julia and Bertrand, on the back of my camera. They both smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I walked into the bar to introduce myself and they smiled happily again seeing this photograph. A nice way to end a cool November day in Paris, with a photograph, at 1/4 of a second, that honors a beautiful moment and a kiss. (Photo and comment by Peter Turnley)

48. Happy to be in Paris. Anne et Stephane at the esplanade de Trocadero. After living in Paris now for over thirty years, I almost never visited the Eiffel Tour in the past. But, as with many things, it seems worth contemplating a place that draws so many from all over the world – and the simple thought and idea that one has come and seen it, seems to be a symbol of a moment that will stay with so many for a lifetime.
