My first project was fashioned after an old bible I purchased in an antique store years ago. I love the intricate layers and gold embossing on it, so I tried to re-create that look with the die templates I am using:

With pasta machine or hand roller, roll clay to 1/8 inch thickness to accommodate 5x7 Matting Basics A #5 (with #1 being the smallest die template in the set). Place clay on wax paper. You’ll make 2 of these.
Dust the die templates with flour or talc, then place face down onto clay. Push each die template into clay until you get a deep impression. Remove wax paper.

Arrange templates with clay on a baking sheet and bake clay according to manufacturer’s instructions and allow to cool. Dies will be hot, so use caution when removing from the oven.
. , , .
Once cooled, carefully removed clay from die templates. This clay when baked is flexible, and will not break while you remove it from the templates. Wash your templates once all the clay pieces have been removed.

Adhere clay pieces on top of journal cover with glue, then cover entire journal and clay pieces with black acrylic paint.
, .
Squeeze a small dollop of Gold paste onto scrap paper and touch your forefinger to it. Wipe off extra onto the scrap paper. You only want a small amount on your finger as the paste goes a long way.
. . . .
Rub gold paste onto clay pieces and book edges until you are happy with the results.
.
Add rhinestones and silk ribbon to book and if desired, rub gold paste on page edges. Allow to dry thoroughly.
