Most of the food looked and tasted like it was sitting in the fridge since prior to the current restrictions. There were a number of signs which weren't the dishes that were being served leading to confusion. While there's lots to choose from, everything just didn't seem particularly fresh - either a bit stale or dried up (like it's been sitting the fridge for a long time).
I would rather take my business to the Melba restaurant than the superficial China Bar. There isn’t a huge selection of sushi available because it’s lunch time, just your generic salmon rolls and a couple more. At dinner this area becomes much more exciting, because not only do things like scallop sushi get added to the selection, but this is also where they slice up the fresh sashimi. The fruits are seasonal, with apples, watermelon, oranges, and nectarines on offer. Very nice variety, many dishes to choose from, the buffet was colourful and vibrant. My favourite was a sashimi platter with raw salmon and the Hainan chicken dish was delicious.

I've been to both and although Melba is miles ahead of China Bar signature I still think it's worth going to, especially for this price. Melba is $85 on monday to Thursday only, then on weekends is between $99-$109, and is the higher price every day in November and December.. The price difference would definitely add up to a lot if you were going with a few people.

The food is similar to that of the city branch but I'd say it's actually a bit worse.

So you don't understand buffets with nicer environment and service, doesn't mean everyone who goes to them doesn't care about how they're treated. Complaining specifically about service in a buffet setting is like complaining that KFC should serve more healthy foods while providing a better dinning atmosphere for eat ins with plates and solid cutlery. China bar's target market is probably just those who care about quantity and not service. Two and a half hours later, we rolled out of the door, filled to bursting. But watch out – if you visit on weekends and Friday night, you’ll only have one hour and a half hours to have all you can eat. And given the variety of food on offer, that’s probably nowhere near enough time.
There isn’t much in the way of sushi at lunch time, mostly stock-standard salmon, tuna and Californian rolls; it’s the dinner session you want if you’re after serious seafood. We skipped on a lot of the ho-hum offerings such as black pepper lamb and vegetable tempura. Either you are exaggerating or have not been Melba and Conservatory. Of the countless times we've been there neither of the places have people lining up to grab food. The service to fill up empty glasses, drinks and takeaway the plates is always been very prompt.
Burwood Teppanyaki House is a recent establishment, dedicated to serving fabulous teppanyaki cuisines and other Japanese delicacies. We have a comfortable venue with three different dining sections... Possibly the richest chocolate dessert on offer, this was really good, but a bit too rich at this stage of the meal.
