Morocco Sahara Desert Camps: How to Choose

Пятница, 10 Февраля 2023 г. 23:38 + в цитатник

The camels lanky legs do an awful lot of wobbling as they make their way up and over and down the sand dunes. My butt was killing me after about 10 minutes into the 90 minute journey. Getting from the main road to our specific campsite was about a two mile journey over towering sand dunes, which meant about 90 minutes via camel transit.
Their team of local staff took such good care of us, was always asking if we were comfortable and if we needed anything, and the food was amazing. Literally every meal we were served enough food for five people and struggled to make a dent. Because we didn’t go through one of the larger Marrakech tours we were the only two people on our camel trek into the desert. Now, we had only heard luxury desert camps morocco about Sahara tours leaving from Marrakech, so at first we thought we would have to go all the way to Marrakech from Fes and then down to Merzouga, which would have been insane. But then it turned out there actually is a bus from Fes straight to Merzouga, phew! So instead of booking a full desert tour we headed to Merzouga on our own and then sorted an independent desert trek from there.

Makeup Wipes & Dry Shampoo– Although this is a luxury camp, you are still in the middle of the desert, so there is no running water. We were picked bright and early from Fairmont Marrakech by our driver Hassan. He was extremely knowledgeable, professional, courteous, patient and also catered the tour towards how we wanted it (based on where I wanted to make pitstops for all the photos!). Anush and I felt comfortable and safe that we were in good hands throughout our journey with a very competent driver guide.
And when they asked if we wanted to spend an extra 25 Euro to upgrade to “luxury camping”, we were like, “duh.” The experience did not disappoint. Camping at Indiana Beach is as close to real camping as I’ve ever been. Not exactly roughing it.I’m pretty sure the closest I’ve gotten to actual camping was when we hiked the Inca Trail for four days. That which was true camp living, but our amazing porters carried and pitched our tents, cooked us three-course meals, and even carried around a toilet for us. Like I said, we took a Supratours bus overnight from Fes, and then a shuttle bus from Merzouga to Ouarzazate.

The two main dune areas here that are popular to camp at are – Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga. We opted to do a 3 day, 2 night tour with Desert Luxury Camp. If truly getting away from it is important, then stress this and insist on a camp deep in the Merzouga desert. The trek itself to the desert camp will take about one hour from Merzouga. For the ride, stick your water bottle close by and keep your camera handy for photos of the chain of the camels’ shadows on the the sand.
What we enjoyed and adventured is the camel ride in sand to see the sunset and well as the experience of ATV Quad biking in the morning. Thank you very much fo the friendly staff in Zahra Camp who take care to us. Deep in the dunes of Erg Chebbi lies Berber desert camps of kinds; from bare-bones and basic, to the ultra-luxurious. Before my trip to Morocco, I spent hours researching luxury desert glamping in search of the best camp.

This hotel is located very close to the sand dunes and organizes camel and 4×4 tours in the desert. Merzouga is a village that offers a wide range of guesthouses, beautiful Kasbah hotels that are decorated with Berber artifacts, and luxurious desert camps. Depending on your needs you will find a place to stay that will match your budget. Merzouga is a town right on the edge of Erg Chebbi, and most Sahara desert luxury camp experiences starts from this town.
If you want to have a tension free trip to morocco, then hiring a well communicated tour guide is a favorable alternative for you. You have to choose such a tour guide that has better communication and also suitable knowledge about the tribal people like Nomadic in Tuareg . Therefore you have a golden opportunity of grabbing the skill of local culture by spending your enormous time with the locality people.

After a long but pleasant journey, we arrived at the entry of the dunes where we hopped on, to an adventure we will never forget! We won't explain the details so that you can discover this amazing experience by yourself. The Luxury Double Tent is a great choice for couples in love. Choose this luxurious tent and spend special nights on your honeymoon.
Riding the camels isn’t necessarily difficult in the sense that running up a hill is, but it’s uncomfortable, and we were all VERY sore by the end of our trek. The tour is also simply tiring, the pace is very quick and no one got fantastic sleep. As far as time, I can certainly see someone wanting a second night in the desert, though we were very sore and exhausted by the end of our time and happy to head back to town. We did include a couple of the extra stops such as Ait Benhaddou, but not enough to justify taking up more of our time in Morocco for it. We did go through our hotel to book our tour, but I don’t recommend it–we overpaid because of doing that.
Camping, and in Morocco in the Sahara desert, is really a dream of mine. It is only 5 minutes’ drive from Merzouga Lake and features a library, a sun patio, and a sun deck. The Sahara Desert captures the imagination of many people, and once there, you’ll understand why.
