Helmet : This pattern has instructions for knitting, crochet detail) the hat shown. Although billed in the 1942 pattern book as a man's hat, the one-size design should certainly be uni-sex. An unusual designed hat, it is helmet style with muffs that fit down over the ears, and a crossed design fitting over the top of the head.

This pattern is offered as a free download in appreciation of my customers' business. Not a customer; just want the pattern. No problem; but how about circling me on Google+ in exchange?

Materials:

  • 2 oz. knitting worsted.
  • 1 pr. #5 needles (Standard).
  • 1 #2 crochet hook (Standard).

Gauge: 6 stitches to inch, 8 rows to inch.

omens Free Knitted Slipper Socks, Vintage 1950s

 

Womens Slipper Socks: This pattern contains directions to knit, crochet detail, the slippers pictured. This design, worked in two colors of Knitting Worsted, is designed to attach to purchased soles that have a toe end cap. The easy to knit slippers are worked with included chart and attached to base with crochet single stitch. The directions are written for misses size small, with changes for medium and large in parentheses.

  • Knitting Worsted: 2 ozs. each of Black (A) and Grey (B).

Les Cariatides Coat : This pattern contains directions to knit the coat shown. This design, vintage 1960, is referred to as a three quarter coat. I don't know if the three-quarter pertains to the length of the sleeves or the hemline, but either way, it's quite an attractive design. The loose fitting coat has wide loose-fitting arms with double breasted design and four rows of contrast banding around the round neckline, sleeve ends and waist level on the coat. This pattern is misses size 12, with changes for 14 and 16 in parentheses.

Materials:

  • Unger's LES CARIATIDES 24 (26-28) 50 gr balls (80% WOOL 10% MOHAIR 10% VINYON)
  • KNITTING NEEDLES: Hero Size 11 and 10; Hero Size 10 ½
  • 4-1/2 Yards 3" Grosgrain Ribbon;
  • 6 Buttons;
  • 1 Yard Nylon Tulle

GAUGE:Size 10-1/2 Needles: 8 sts = 3''; 7 rows = 2"

Flamenda Slacks : This pattern has instructions to knit the pants shown. The pants, soft and comfortable, are a fairly easy knit. They feature large side patch pockets, belt loops, slim leg design and back zipper closure. The design, sized for misses 12, have changes for 14 and 16 in parentheses. The pattern came to us originally from Unger, vintage 1960.

Materials:

  • Unger's FLAMENDA – 11 (12-12) 40 gr. balls
  • Hero Knitting Needles No. 5;
  • Hero Steel Crochet Hook Size 1;
  • 7" slide fastener;
  • 3/4 yard 1 ½" grosgrain ribbon;
  • 1/4 yard 2" grosgrain ribbon.

GAUGE:11 sts = 2"; 13 rows = 2"

intage Knitted Coat Pattern in Plaid

Les Bouquets Plaid Coat: This pattern contains directions to knit, crochet details, the coat shown. Although a fair amount of work, this is a lovely coat. Knee length, or below, the coat is lined with long sleeves, neck button closure, a large shawl collar that is fringed and ... don't let me forget to mention the fabulous plaid design. The coat is knitted and the plaid vertical stripes are added in crochet. The only downsize of this pattern is the limited sizing -- misses 12, with changes for 14 and 16 only.

Materials:

  • Unger's LES BOUQUETS — 11 (12-13) 50 gr. balls MC, 5 balls Color A, 3 balls Color B, 3 balls Color C
  • Hero Size 8 and Hero Size 6 Knitting Needles
  • Hero G Aluminum Crochet Hook
  • Size 0 Steel Crochet Hook.
  • 3 ½ Yards 45" lining material;
  • 1 button.

GAUGE:Blocked — 15 sts = 4";11 rows = 2"

Reversible Coat : This pattern contains directions to knit, crochet detail, the coat pictured. Car coat in length, this delightful piece is knit in two colors in a checked pattern stitch. The design is such that the coat becomes reversible with primary colors being reversed from the inside to the outside. The loose fitting coat has long sleeves, frogged type front button closure and small collar. The pattern, vintage 1960s from Spinnerin, is misses size 12, with changes for 14 and 16 in parentheses.

Materials:

  • SPINNERIN Quick Knit (2 oz. skeins) —6 (7-8) Black; 12 (13-14) White
  • 1 pair each straight knitting needles Nos. 11 and 8
  • 1 aluminum crochet hook No. 1
  • 1/2 yard black suede 1-1/2 inches wide
  • 6 black leather buttons;
  • 6 flat white pearl buttons

Plaid Jacket: This pattern contains directions for knitting, crochet detail, the jacket pictured. The jacket is worked in 3 colors of knitting worsted primarily in moss stitch. First the horizontal rows are worked and then the vertical stripes are added at the end in sc crochet. The semi fitted jacket has long sleeves, high neck that folds back at top and a front 7 button band. it is hip length and sized for misses at 16 only. The pattern is vintage 1942.

Materials:

  • 2 oz. Knitting worsted in Green.
  • 2 oz Knitting worsted in Red
  • 18 oz Knitting worsted in Grey 1
  • pr. #6 needles.
  • 1 Bone crochet hook #5.

Ski Set : This pattern contains directions to knit, crochet detail, the set pictured. This is a three piece set that includes a pullover sweater, a cap scarf combination and a pair of mitttens. The sweater, misses size 16 only, is an easy knit with high round neckline, long sleeves, ribbing and hip length. The cap has a pointed hood that come down and wraps around the neck like a scarf or hood. Even the mittens are an easy knit. Both the hood and mittens have floral crochet trim.

Materials - Sweater

18 oz. Jiffy wool in Red.

pr. #8 double-pointed bone needles.

1 pr. #13 wooden needles

Gauge: 3 ½ stitches = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch.

Knitted Blouse : This pattern contains directions to knit, crochet the blouse shown. A different design, this vintage 1942 knitting pattern, is a long sleeve blouse in two tones of wool, 2 and 3 ply. The sleeves and back are worked in one color; the front is worked in the second. Notice the interest created in the high front tucked neckline. The sweater has a back neck zipper closure and is hip length. The pattern is misses size 34 only.

Materials:

  • 6 oz. 3-ply wool in navy; 2 oz. 2-ply wool in grey;
  • 1 pr. #4 knitting needles;
  • 1 # 2 steel crochet hook;
  • 1 4 ½ in. zipper.

Gauge: 7 ½  sts to 1 in.; 10 rows to 1 in.

Swim Trunks : This pattern contains instructions for knitting the trunks pictured. The pattern is vintage 1942 -- War Era. The trunks, mans size medium (no reference point, but based on other patterns in book, I'd suggest 38-40), are worked in a ribbed pattern stitch in a close fitting design. There are belt loop carriers to hold a purchased belt in place. Want to knit him something he's never had before? Well .....

Materials:

  • 6 oz. 4-ply wool.
  • 1 pr. size 1 needles.
  • 1 pr. size o needles.
  • steel needle, sock size, # 13.
  • 1 bathing belt, about 2 ½ ins. wide.

Knitted Beret : This pattern contains directions to knit the hat pictured. The design is referred to as a beret. I'm not quite sure that's the correct style, an attractive hat it is. Fitting a bit lower on the head than a pillbox, this design has a slightly pleated back that is nicely bowed. The pattern is one size.

This is a Mail Order Pattern, purchased through newspapers and catalogs. This pattern was marketed as Anne Cabot 5291.

Materials:

COATS & CLARK'S "RED HEART" WINTUK SPORT YARN--(2 oz. skeins): 2 Skeins of White.

NEEDLES: Knitting needles, 1 pair No. 10 - 14" length.

ACCESSORIES: About 22 inches of White round elastic.

GAUGE: With four strands -- 3 sts = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch.

ntage Westkit Blouse Knitting Pattern

Westkit Blouse: This pattern contains directions to knit, crochet edging, the blouse pictured. An interesting design, part vest and all blouse. The body design is that of a vest, front buttoned with shaped hemline, but add to that a large collar and long sleeves in contrast color that takes on the look of a blouse under the vest. The pattern is primarily worked in Seed Stitch. The vintage 1948 design is sized for misses 14, 16 and 18. This design is rated intermediate.

Materials:
  • Spinnerin Softa, 5 (5,6) 1-oz. balls Main Color (MC), 5 (6,6) balls Contrasting Color (CC), or Spinnerin Candour, 2 (2,2) 4-oz. skeins MC, 2 (2,2) skeins CC.
  • No. 1 and No. 3 knitting needles.
  • No. 4 steel crochet hook.
  • 7 buttons.
  • Shoulder pads.
  • Seam binding.
  • Snap fasteners.

GAUGE: 8 sts-1 ". 12 Rows-1 ".

o Piece Peplum Dress Knitting Pattern Vintage 1940

Peplum Dress : This pattern contains directions to knit the dress pictured. A pretty as a picture piece, it is a two piece dress. The top, with extended shoulders, small peter pan round collar and belt in contrast color, extended shoulders and a sweet peplum that is open to the waistline. The straight skirt is knee (or desired) length with elasticized waist. The design, vintage 1949, is size 12 to 18 for misses. The instructions are in size 12, with changes for 14, 16 and 18 in parentheses.

Materials:

  • Spinnerin Dressy Startime, 1 oz. skeins. For Blouse: 13 (14,15,16) sks. Spinnerin Dressy, 1 oz. skeins: For Skirt: 18 (19,19, 20) sks.
  • No.2 and No.3 circular needles,
  • 1 pr. No.3 and 1 set DP needles No.2.
  • Steel crochet hook No.4.
  • Elastic for waist,
  • 2-4" zippers,
  • seam binding and shoulder pads.
