FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Headband: 18 inches in circumference

Fox: 3 1/8 inches tall, excluding ears

MATERIALS

• Plymouth Encore Worsted medium (worsted) weight acrylic/wool yarn (3 1/2 oz/200 yds/100g per skein); (4):

1 skein each #0456 harvest, #0208 white, 5 yds #0217 black

• Sizes H/8/5mm and F/5/3.75mm crochet hooks or sizes needed to obtain gauge

• Tapestry needle

GAUGE

Size H hook: 11 hdc = 3 inches; 3 rows = 1 inch

Size F hook: 5 sc = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch

PATTERN NOTES

Chain-2 at beginning of row does not count as stitch unless otherwise stated.

Adjust Headband size by working more or fewer rows of Ribbing.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

SPECIAL STITCH

Cluster (cl): Yo twice, insert hook around post of indicated st, yo pull up lp, [yo and pull through 2 lps on hook] twice, [yo twice, insert hook around post of same st, yo, pull up lp, {yo and pull through 2 lps on hook} twice] twice, yo and pull through all lps on hook.

FOX HEADBAND

Row 1: With size H hook and white, ch 41, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (39 hdc)

Row 2: Ch 2 (See Pattern Notes), hdc in each st across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 2, hdc in each of next 19 sts, change color (see Stitch Guide) to harvest in last st, cl (see Special Stitch) in next hdc on row 1, changing to white in last yo of cl, sk next hdc on row 2 behind cl just made, hdc in each of next 19 sts, change color to harvest in last st, turn. (38 hdc, 1 cl)

Row 4: Working in front lp (see Stitch Guide), ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn.

Row 5: Ch 2, hdc in each of next 17 sts, working around posts of cl on row 3, 2 fptr (see Stitch Guide) around first st of cl, fptr around next st of cl, 2 fptr around last st of cl, sk next 5 sts on row 4 behind 5 fptr just made, hdc in each of next 17 sts, turn. (34 hdc, 5 fptr)

Row 6: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn.

Row 7: Ch 2, hdc in each of next 16 sts, working around next 5 fptr on row 5,2 fptr around first fptr, fptr around each of next 3 fptr, 2 fptr around last fptr, sk next 7 sts on row 6 behind 7 fptr just made, hdc in each of next 16 sts, turn. (32 hdc, 7 fptr)

Row 8: Rep row 6.

Row 9: Ch 2, hdc in each of next 15 sts, working around next 7 fptr on row 7,2 fptr around next fptr, fptr around each of next 5 fptr, 2 fptr around next fptr, sk next 9 sts on row 8 behind 9 fptr just made, hdc in each of next 15 sts. Fasten off. (30 hdc, 9 fptr)

RIBBING

Row 1: With size H hook and RS of Headband facing, working in row ends, join (see Pattern Notes) harvest in bottom right corner, ch 1, sc in same sp, evenly sp 11 sc along edge of Headband, turn. (12 sc)

Rows 2-21: Working in back Ips (see Stitch Guide), ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Leaving long end for sewing, fasten off.

NOSE

Make 1.

With RS facing and black, place slip knot on size H hook, yo, insert hook around same hdc post of row 1 where cl was made, [yo, pull up a lp] 6 times, yo and pull through all lps on hook. Fasten off.

EAR

Inner Ear

Make 2.

Row 1: With white and size F hook, ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch across, turn. (5 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in first 2 sts, sc in next st, sc dec in last 2 sts, turn. (3 sc)

Row 3: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts, sc in last st, turn. (2 sc)

Row 4: Ch 1, sc dec in first 2 sts (ear tip made), do not turn. (1 sc)

Edging

Rnd 1: Now working in rnds, ch 1, work 5 sc evenly sp along side of Inner Ear Front to next corner, ch 1, working across opposite side of foundation ch, sc in each ch across to next corner, ch 1, work 5 sc evenly sp along opposite side to next corner, join in ch 1 at beg of rnd. Fasten off. (15 sc)

Outer Ear

Make 2.

Rows 1-4: With harvest, rep rows 1-4 for Inner Ear.

Edging

Rnd 1: With harvest, rep Edging for Inner Ear. Do not fasten off at end of rnd.

Assembly

Rnd 1: Holding Inner Ear and Outer Ear with WS tog and working through both thicknesses, with size F hook, ch 1, [(sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-1 sp at tip of Ear, sc in each sc across to next ch-1 sp] 3 times, join in first sc. Fasten off. (21 sc)

EYE

Make 2.

Rnd 1: With size F hook and black, ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in first sc. Fasten off. (5 sc)

Make large French knot (see illustration) with white in center of Eye using photo as guide.

ASSEMBLY

With black, sew Eyes on Headband using photo as guide.

With harvest, sew Ears on Headband using photo as guide.

With harvest, whipstitch (see illustration) rem seam between Ribbing and Headband.
