      В этом посте пишу о своём ненаглядном Ганнибале Лектере, вернее о книгах и фильмах Томаса Харриса о нём. Детали, искусствоведческие размышления, трудности перевода, вобщем всякой твари по паре.

 

 

      In this post I write about my beloved Hannibal Lecter, more precisely about the books and movies by Tomas Harris connected to this personage. I contemplate the trivia, the translation into Russian difficulties, my study of art ideas. In general, there is all sort of things.

      Bento (弁当 bentō^?) is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento consists of rice, fish or meat, and one or more pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container.

 

           Приготовленная дома еда на одну порцию, обычная для японской кухни. Традиционно состоит из риса, рыбы, мяса и одного или нескольких видов маринованных или иначе приготовленных овощей, обычно упакованных в контейнер в виде коробочки.

The Carnavalet Museum in Paris is dedicated to the city. The museum occupies two neighboring mansions: theHôtel Carnavalet and the former Hôtel Le Peletier de Saint Fargeau.

Дядя Ганнибала с понтом подруливает к детскому дому на Delahaye. Модели не знаю, поэтому несколько предвоенных и голубых вставлю.

  He and Second Monitor were looking at a Delahaye parked in the gravel courtyard of the castle,...72p.

Делайе (фр. Delahaye) — французская автомобилестроительная компания, основанная Эмилем Делайе в 1895 году. В 1900 году Эмиль Делайе покинул компанию из-за проблем со здоровьем. Компания прекратила существование в 1954 году.

ESSONNE

                   На глади речки Essonne собиралась пыльца. 102 стр.  The Essonne is a 97 km long French river. It is a tributary off the left bank of the Seine. Its course crosses the departments of Loiret and Essonne, and it gives its name to the latter.

      Отсюда мы узнаём где жил граф Ганнибал: Essonne (pronounced: [ɛ.sɔn]) is a French department in the region of Île-de-France. It is named after the Essonne River.

 

А вот сама речка и кое-какие замки на ней, возможно для книги использовал Харрис.

FIDDLEHEAD

fiddlehead

a fern that grows in the Northeast and Canada. Grows along riverbanks. A delicacy in springtime in Eastern Canada. When the fern is young, and ready for picking, it looks like the head of a violin or fiddle. Whip up some fiddleheads with butter on them.

 

Этот папоротник, растущий на северо-западе и в Канаде по берегам рек. В восточной Канаде деликатес в весеннее время. Когда папоротник молодой и готов для сбора он выглядит как головка грифа виолончели или скрипки.

Взбейте фиддлхеды и положите маслица.

GRANA

...a cheese  merchant oiled a length of piano wire and used it to cut a great wheel of Grana. 109p.

       Grana originally referred to a class of hard, mature cheeses from Italy which have a granular texture and are often used for grating. These cheeses are typically made in the form of large drums. The structure is often described as crystalline, and the drums are divided by being split with a fairly blunt triangular knife designed for the purpose, rather than being sliced, cut or sawed.

       Название GRANA первоначально относилось к классу твёрдых, зрелых сыров из Италии, имевших зернистую структуру и часто использовавшихся для натирания. Эти сыры обычно производятся в виде больших кругов. Структуру сыра часто описывают как кристаллическую и круги чаще раскалываются достаточно тупым треугольным ножом, специально приспособленными для этой цели, чем разрезаются или распиливаются.Слово «грана» в название сыра обозначает все твердые сухие сыры. Другие эпитеты - место изготовления.

MEMORY PALACE.

  О дворце памяти Ганнибала написано в Hannibal Rising, упоминается  Topkapi Museum в Стамбуле, очень большое и многокомнатное здание дворца-музея.

              The doors to Dr. Hannibal Lecter's memory palace is in the darkness at the center of his mind and it has a latch that can be found bu touch alone. This curious portal opens on immense and well-lit places, early baroque, and corridors and chambers rivaling in number those of the Topcapi Museum.

 

He was considering it for a display in his memory palace... 203p.

О дворце памяти и правилах его создания, о мнемотехнике также стр 209.

О дворце памяти упоминает в своем труде 1928 года Yates. Я книгу уже нашёл в публичке, ужо прочту, отпишу.

MULLION

 В описании замка дяди Ганнибала:

The mullions in its many windows were curved like spiderwebs weighted with dew. 77p.

 

         A mullion is a vertical structural element which divides adjacent window units. The primary purpose of the mullion is as a structural support to an arch or lintel above the window opening. Its secondary purpose may be as a rigid support to the glazing of the window. When used to support glazing, they are teamed with horizontal supporting elements called "transoms".

Как конкретно выглядели окна в замке дяди, не знаю. Может типа так?

PANEL

   There was a scroll on the dais befor the armor. It was unrolled only enough to show the first panel, the samurai wearing the armor... 93p.

Вы будете смеяться, но я что-то затормозил. Ну и как тут panel перевести? Может это:

a piece of sequential art such as a graphic novel or comic strip или полоса пергамента?

 

POPIL

Имя инспектора должно что-то означать, быть говорящим. Пока не нашёл ничего ни во французском, ни в английском.

RAYSKIN

Ray - рыба скат.

        Shagreen is a type of rawhide consisting of rough untanned skin, formerly made from a horse's back or that of an onager (wild ass). Shagreen is now commonly made of the skins of sharks and rays.

         Shagreen has an unusually rough and granular surface, and is sometimes used as a fancy leather for book bindings, pocketbooks and small cases, as well as its more utilitarian uses in the hilts and scabbards of swords and daggers, where slipperiness is a disadvantage.

ROMAN  STRIKING.

      Часы на камине психиатра отбивают часы не просто, а по римски:

   The clock used the Roman 1V on its face, rater than 1111, for simmetry with the V111 on the other side. Hannibal wondered if that meant it had Roman striking - two chimes, one meaning "five" and another meaning "one". 98p.

 

           Some rare clocks use a form of striking known as "Roman Striking" (invented by Joseph KNIBB), where a large bell or lower tone is sounded to represent "five", and a small bell or high tone is sounded to represent "one". For example, the hour of four o'clock would be sounded as a high tone followed by a low tone, whereas the hour of eleven o'clock would be sounded by two low tones followed by a high tone. Clocks using this type of striking usually represent four o'clock on the dial with an "IV" rather than the more common "IIII"

The sebaceous glands are microscopic glands in the skin that secrete an oily/waxy matter, called sebum, to lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair of mammals. In humans, they are found in greatest abundance on the face and scalp, though they are distributed throughout all skin sites except the palms and soles

Tantō

A tantō ("short sword") is one of the traditional Japanese swords  (nihonto) that were worn by the samurai class of feudal Japan. The tantō dates to the Heian period, when it was mainly used as a weapon but evolved in design over the years to become more ornate.

The Tanto is commonly referred to as a knife or dagger. The blade is single or double edged with a length between 15 and 30 cm (6-12 inches, in Japanese 1 shaku). The tantō was designed primarily as a stabbing weapon, but the edge can be used for slashing as well.

        Wind chimes

               The candlelight played on St. Joan and gave random expressions to her face like chance tunes in a wind chime. 204p.

	Wind chimes are chimes constructed from suspended tubes, rods, bells or other objects and are often made of metal or wood. Wind chimes are usually hung outside of a building or residence, as a visual and aural garden ornament, and are to be played by the wind.

Patrick Cassidy

      Vide Cor Meum is a song composed by Patrick Cassidy based on Dante's "La Vita Nuova", specifically on the sonnet "A ciascun'alma presa", in chapter 3 of the Vita Nuova. "Vide cor meum" means here’s my heart". The song was produced by Patrick Cassidy and Hans Zimmer and was performed by Libera / Lyndhurst Orchestrathe, conducted by Gavin Greenaway. Singers are Danielle de Niese and Bruno Lazzaretti, who play Beatrice and Dante, respectively.

The song first appeared in the movie Hannibal, while Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Inspector Pazzi see an outdoor opera in Florence, and was especially composed for the movie. This opera piece was chosen to be performed at the Oscars in 2002 during the presentation of a lifetime achievement award to producer Dino De Laurentiis and at the 53rd Annual Emmy awards.

It was used later in Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven, during King Baldwin IV's funeral.

ГАННИБАЛ

Обращение к творчеству Данте в фильме Ганнибал.

1. Главное обращение к творчеству Данте в сцене изображающей Ганнибала, Паззи и его жену в опере.

1. The main reference to Dante’s work in the movie is the scene depicting Hannibal, Pazzi and his wife watching an opera.

The sonnet in the Vita Nuova is referenced to in the movie with the name "Vide Cor Meum" since this refers to the Latin words in the prose introduction to the sonnet, which is also part of the Vita Nuova. In this introduction, Dante sets the time to be nine years after his first encounter with Beatrice. She appears to him again, dressed in white and with two other females and greets Dante with all her virtue. Enchanted by her sweetness and gentleness, Dante falls asleep and has a dream. In the dream he sees a mighty figure which says "Ego dominus tuus" (I’m your Lord). Beatrice is instead asleep in this figure’s arms. She brings in her arms what is recognizable as a heart and murmurs the words "Vide cor tuum" (Here’s your heart, where "Vide cor meum" means here’s my heart) while eating part of the heart. The two figures leave and Dante wakes up. He wants to tell what he has seen in the dream and writes the sonnet "A ciasun’alma presa", the one read by Anthony Hopkins to Pazzi’s wife. Here’s the text:

A ciascun’alma presa, e gentil core,
nel cui cospetto ven lo dir presente,
in ciò che mi rescrivan suo parvente
salute in lor segnor, cioè Amore.
Già eran quasi che atterzate l’ore
del tempo che onne stella n’è lucente,

Here’s a free prose translation:
I write this piece of poetry for any soul taken by love and any noble heart,
so that they may write me back their opinion about it. I greets our lord, that is Love.
Love itself appeared suddenly to me when one third of the night had already passed.
If I think back about it I’m frightened.
Love seemed cheerful while bringing in its arms a sleeping woman wrapped in a cloth and in its hands my heart.
Love then woke her up and she ate this burning heart; it then went away crying.

 

2. Поедание мозга живого человека.

Как ни странно, идея тоже заимствована у Данте. В дантовском Аде граф Уголино поедает мозги архиепископа Ругиери. В фильме Ганнибал изображён как эксперт по творчеству Данте Алигьери.

    The idea of eating a living person's brain as punishment is a reference to Dante's Inferno where Count Ugolino does this to Archbishop Ruggieri in hell. This makes sense because Lecter/Fell is depicted as Dante Alighieri expert in this movie.

2. The first shot of Florence after the movie starts is the same scene as depicted in the drawing on Hannibal's cell wall Hannibal describes to Clarice in The Silence of the Lambs - the Duomo, as seen from the Belvedere, in Florence, Italy.

3. Some of the places where the movie was filmed include places where filming hardly ever is allowed. Author Thomas Harris, while doing research for his book, got in contact with the heir of the Palazzo Capponi. For the movie this same heir allowed Ridley Scott to film the Capponi Library.

Выставка Бронзино в Палаццо Строззи во Флоренции. Палаццо памятно тем, что там работал Ганнибал Лектор. А сайт великолепный, можно войти в каждый из 11 залов и тщательно все картины и скульптуры рассмотреть, имеются неплохие комментарии, экспозиции в залах подобраны по темам, например: религия, Медичи, портрет и т.п

Знатная картинка Венера, Купидон и Время. Это время сразу и не заметишь, слева,за попой Купидона морда гнусная - оно. Бронзино, пацан, как я тебя понимаю.
