Cobalt blue is rich and deep, and verditer blue is a beautiful, muted blue. Lazurite is a stunning blue with hints of purple, and smalt is a deep, dark blue.

Many different blues can be used in watercolor painting, each with unique properties. Let's look at the different types of blue pigments and what sets them apart.

How to Draw Digital Art A Complete Guide for Beginners/www.artlex.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/How-to-Draw-Digital-Art--A-Complete-Guide-for-Beginners-1-300x158.jpg" target="_blank">https://www.artlex.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/...de-for-Beginners-1-300x158.jpg 300w, https://www.artlex.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/...e-for-Beginners-1-1024x538.jpg 1024w, https://www.artlex.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/...de-for-Beginners-1-768x403.jpg 768w" width="1200" />

Digital art isn’t something new, however, it wasn’t always accessible to everybody. To make digital art back then you’d have to learn very complicated software, own really expensive graphic tablets and usually, you’d have to either study graphic design or work as a designer to even get to know the media.

Gatekeeping was the order of the day and knowledge wasn’t shared as much as it is right now.

With the years, it became more artist-oriented, graphic tablets weren’t that expensive anymore and tutorials started to appear on the internet on how to learn software such as Photoshop or Illustrator. But to be honest, it was really hard to learn it on your own.

Nowadays, it seems that digital art is everywhere on the internet, there is not a single person who hasn’t seen a digital art piece or even used digital assets in their daily life. And there’s an abundance of accessible courses and free tutorials or articles on everything you need to start with digital art.

Software such as procreate and Autodesk sketchbook don’t even need tutorials since their interfaces are so user-friendly, beside that, the opportunities for digital artists have also multiplied online since remote work became a possibility, and even with social media, artists now can have recognition and support of their purely digital works.

We’ve reached the point where everybody can make digital art even from their phones.

But still, there are many questions on how to start and what to do first, and that’s why this guide is for. Keep reading and by the end, you will for sure know how to start making digital art!

Sandrine Pelissier. Watercolor Mixed Media Painting Techniques

, 08 2017 . 20:05 +

About Sandrine Pelissier

I grew up in France but have been living in Canada for the last 12 years, I am currently located in North Vancouver and work from a studio on Pemberton Avenue.

Watercolor is my medium of choice because of the unique way it allows me to render light. The transparency of this medium can make it look like the painting is lit from behind and the light is shining through the paper In my portraits, I like to tell stories about the people around me. I am very interested in childhood fantasy or fairy tales (I wish it would snow Flowers, Hair Balloon, Georgia, the Spanish dress and the Eclectus Parrot). I also like to induce a dialogue with the viewer in some paintings dealing more with introspection and mood (Mixed, In the studio).

Those portraits are not about likeness or knowing the people that are being painted, as I see my models as actors in a movie, they are the faces that will allow me to tell a story or to show emotions. Those faces are a source of endless fascination and I find the subtlety that can be achieved with watercolor well suited to the complexity of the human face.

My technique involves the accumulation of many transparent layers of watercolor. Then I like to incorporate mixed media in the background, work sometimes with some contouring. I also sometimes like to add some drawing on top of the painting or some graphic elements…
