Jan Weenink (born 1946) for many years illustrated for the magazine Vogels and produced many covers for the magazine Het Vogeljaar. In 2000 he illustrated a collection of poems, "De draagkracht van veren". Weenink attended the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam from 1972 to 1976, after which he worked as an art teacher. As an artist Weenink initially only worked in gouache, but after seeing the work of British painters David Morrison Reid Henry (1919 - 1977), Archibald Thorburn (1860 - 1935) and Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe (1901 - 1979) he decided to work in oil. His oeuvre comprises very detailed paintings for which he gets his inspiration from close by: the dune nature reserves in Northern Holland.
