The healing properties of black musli |
The black musli (Curculigo orchioides) is an herb belonging to the family Hypoxidaceae. It comes from temperate regions such as the Chota Nagapur Plateau and the Deccan Plateau in India.
The healing properties of this herb are described in several Ayurvedic texts. It is also an important component of several Unan medicine medications. The ancient inhabitants of China were well aware of the healing properties of Black Musli and have widely used it in herbal preparations. The rhizome of this plant is widely used for medicinal purposes.
Ayurveda describes the healing properties of black musli as follows:
Mushali Madhuraa Vrishya Vereshna Brimhani Guru
Tiktaa rasaayani hanti gudajanya anilam tatha ||
According to Ayurveda, Black Musli has a sweet-bitter taste with a strangely sweet aftertaste that persists even after digestion. The tuber is difficult to digest and has the property of "sticking" (snighdha, picchila). Because of these properties, black musli increases kapha and reduces vata and pitta.
Ayurvedic preparations of this herb are used in the treatment of several diseases. The main uses can be classified as follows:
For breathing problems: Black musli is used with other herbs to treat bronchitis, chronic cough and asthma.
Fresh Seeded Eucalyptus Garland
For digestive problems: black musli is effective in the treatment of hepatitis. Rejuvenates the liver and normalizes its function. It acts as a good stimulant of the appetite and stabilizes the digestion. This herb is useful in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
In case of reproductive problems: Ayurveda also deepens the aphrodisiac of this herb. Black musli preparations are widely used to treat erectile dysfunction, low libido, low sperm count, and low motility of spermatozoa. Ayurvedic texts highly appreciate its properties, improving the quality and quantity of sperm.
For urination problems: black musli acts as a diuretic and increases the resistance of the urinary system to infections.
For skin problems: The Black Musli tuber is crushed into paste and applied to the outside to effectively cure several skin diseases.
In addition to these specific medical uses, Black Musli is also used as a general systemic health enhancer (rasayana). Strengthens the body and strengthens immunity. A parallel study led to the discovery of new medical properties of black musli. The most notable are:
• Effective for preventing osteoporosis after menopause.
• It is a very good antioxidant.
• Rhizomes have antibacterial properties.
Olive Leaves
Herbal remedies from India use variations of muesli to increase male sexual energy. They mix this herb with shatavari to increase the female libido.
In light of the above facts, it becomes clear that black musli is an herb that must be protected and preserved for medical use. But it is also a fact that this precious herb is facing an imminent threat of extinction due to overgrazing and unsustainable levels of use for generous pharmacists. Thus, the needs of the day include in-depth training and education in sustainable forms of agriculture and the preservation of this invaluable pearl of the plant kingdom.
