Kim Do-young, who is 20 years, 10 months, and 13 days old today, broke the record of the youngest player to join the 30 home run-30 stolen base club (22 years, 11 months, and 27 days), which was set by Park Jae-hong when he joined the Hyundai Tigers in 1996. This is even faster than the youngest Major League Baseball (MLB) player to join the club, set by Mike Trout (33, LA Angels) in 2012 at the age of 21 years, 3 months, and 1 day. Kim Do-young joined the 30 home run-30 stolen base club in his 111th game of the season, breaking the record for fewest games (112 games) set by Thames (38, NC) in 2015.

 

Kim Do-young was evaluated as a '5-tool player' who would follow in the footsteps of his hometown senior, 'Son of the Wind' Lee Jong-beom (54), since his days at Gwangju Dongseong High School. The Gwangju-based team KIA chose Kim Do-young over Moon Dong-joo (21, currently Hanwha), who was considered the biggest pitcher, even though other teams were selecting promising pitchers in the first round of the 2022 rookie draft. And Kim Do-young proved that this choice was not wrong in just two seasons. Lee Jong-beom joined the 30-home run-30-steal club in 1997, hitting 30 home runs and stealing 64 bases. Kim Do-young is the third member of the 30-30 club from KIA, following Lee Jong-beom and Hong Hyun-woo, who hit 34 home runs and stole 31 bases in 1999.

 

Kim Do-young, who is on par with the KIA 'legend' players who have won the most (11) professional baseball championships, is poised to erase even the name of 'national hitter' Lee Seung-yeop, Doosan Bears manager (48). If Kim Do-young, who was born on October 2, 2003, is selected as this year's regular season MVP, he will surpass the manager's record of being the youngest MVP winner in professional baseball history (21 years, 1 month, 14 days).
