tattered floral challenge…

hi there bloggers.  hope you’ve enjoyed your week.  since it’s been snowing here in northern arizona for the past 2 days, and today is a day filled with blue skies & sunshine, i was inspired to create something for spring.  even better, a challenge (but more on that at the end of today’s post) so i thought i would share this fun tutorial to create these colorful tattered floral pins perfect for adorning your cards, tags, wearables, or home decor projects.  let’s get started…

Tim's Tattered Floral Challenge

I am always up for a challenge, and when I saw Tim's Tattered Floral Challenge,I was so ready to take part and create something with what probably is my favourite die of all time. OK, so I am very, very close to the deadline... I like to sail close to the wind!! It finishes in less than a day! Actually Tim's pin inspired me to use some hessian that I have, and also use the Distress paints, which I love! I did prep the hessian ( Burlap in the USA and Canada) to stop it fraying too much with Ranger's Glue 'n Seal, and then die cut it.



 I also used the mini tattered florals too. I painted them with blue tones of the paint, and added lighter colours and some of the Picket Fence on the edges too. 



A silver button threaded with very fine hessian string through the middle, and lots of manipulating of the leaves to make it more flower like. It is actually a brooch, and providing the sewing doesn't come undone, I will probably wear it! 




I feel a few more of these coming on.... Thank you Tim for the inspiration....

Fabric Flowers Tutorial

 

Please forgive me, the design of my blog is not finished completely, but I decided to start with the first post.

Last summer I made few denim lollipop flowers and they got good ratings on my docraft gallery, so I would like my first post to be short tutorial on them. I must also add that they are inspired by Prima flowers.

This is what you need:


  1. old jeans or any canvas type fabric. 
  2. various circle templates ( I use my spellbinder dies)
  3. some fabric stiffener ( I make my own, but I am sure you can buy some too) 
  4. pen
  5. sharp scissors
  6. glue gun
  7. some flower centres (beads, buttons,...)
  8. mists (optional) 
Using your chosen stencils and scissors, cut circles out of fabric in various sizes.

Then each circle soak well in fabric stiffener, crumple them up in balls and get out excess liquid,
  
Unfold them and gently stretch the edge of the circle, leave flat to dry ( I leave them overnight). Once dried you have something like this:

At this stage they can be misted gently or dyed with distress ink, then left for few minutes to dry again. Sew or glue flower centre on the top layer and glue gun the rest of the layers as desired, I like altering two colours.

Silk and Tule Flower Tutorial - Tattered Flower Challenge

 
Hi all

It is hard to believe that I am blogging second time today. Reason for that is deadline for Tim Holtz Tattered Flower Challenge, check it out yourself on the link, even if it is too late to play, you will find lots of inspiration of how to use your Tattered Flower Die.

I bought some pure silk recently and had lots of tulle, left over from children s costumes and decided to make a flower out of those.


This is what you will need:
 


 

 
 
 
  •  Cut 5-8 the biggest flowers out of your tulle, 3 silk flowers - medium and optionally 3 smallest flowers from the tulle, and you will need a button or something for the center.
  • take needle and some fine tread, I used silk, and start folding each big tulle flower in half and stitching and gathering folded petals one by one - like one the photo above. 
  •  Once you finished you should have something like this:



 
  •  Tie your tread at the back of your flower, but do not cut it, spread the petals evenly .

  • Layer your silk petals and  the small tulle petals in the middle of the flower, then add some button and sew trough it

 
And there is my finished product:
 
 
I used 8 layers on the right flower and 5 on the left one. This flower can be used on garments, bags, heir accessories, in all those cases I would advise to hot-glue some felt circle on the back, and for myslef I think I have perfect photos to use them on my scrapbook pages.

It would be nice to stamp some scrip or something on the white silk, unfortunately I did not have blue ink I wanted for it  - they are on my wish list now ;-) .

Please all forgive me on bad photographs, it is midnight here and I just made those flowers and snap them with my mobile phone, have million things for tomorrow so this had to be done now.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Here is a quick and simple way to make an Organza Flower. I used it as a hair tie. Let’s see how creative you all get?

Materials Needed

  • Organza Ribbon
  • Brads
  • Candle

Tutorial

1. Cut about 8 square pieces of the ribbon

2. Pile them together, insert the brad in the middle

3. Cut around them, the circle does not have to be perfect

4. Cut around the circle about an inch apart

5. Light a candle, hold the flower above it, you will see the ends curling up

6. And Voila!

Sometimes inspiration boards, well, inspire me.  And this peach pink and gold inspiration board from last week was one that I could really see building an entire wedding around.

o I decided to whip up a little project to pair with the board, and settled on a feminine headband with fluffyorganza flowers.

Cost:

1 yard of fabric: $8 at my local craft store
Beads: I had these on hand from other projects, but you can find lovely beads also at your craft or art store for $3-$10 per bag
Ribbon: I used 18″ from a spool of ribbon that cost $3

Total = ~$15.00

OK, now who wants an organza flower headband? I’d love to give this one to someone who will make good use of it!
