Gauge: 17 sts x 21 rows on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm
Rib: * K 1, P 1 *
Pattern: See charts (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side. Patterns 2 and 3 are knit entirely in stockinette stitch. Arrows indicate the starting points for different sizes on the chart for Pattern 1.
Body: Cast on 110-118 (126-134-140) sts on smaller circular needles with natural; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 4 cm rib, change to larger circular needles and knit 1 row, increasing 22-26 (30-34-40) sts evenly distributed on the row = 132-144 (156-168-180) sts. Knit Pattern 1 (start at the appropriate arrow, knit pattern over 66-72 (78-84-90) sts for the front - start at the arrow again and knit pattern over the back sts) for 24-24 (24-36-36) rows. Change to stockinette st until the work measures 14-17 (19-21-23) cm . Divide the work for armholes and inc 1 st on each side of the front and back for armhole seams.
Front: = 68-74 (80-86-92) sts. Knit Pattern 3 over the center 48 sts and knit the sts on either side of the pattern in natural. At the same time, when the work measures 21-23 (25-27-27) cm , dec 1 st at each side for armholes = 66-72 (78-84-90) sts. After Pattern 3 knit Pattern 2 over the center 22 sts, then knit 1-2 (3-3-3) rows with natural and knit the next row as follows (right side row): 3-5 (6-7-9) sts natural, Pattern 2, 16-18 (22-26-28) sts natural, Pattern 2, 3-5 (6-7-9) sts natural. Then knit the rest with natural and stockinette st. When the work measures 37-40 (44-46-48) cm .
Back: = 68-74 (80-86-92) sts. K like the front, but bind off for the neck when the work measures 39-42 (46-48-50) cm .
Sleeves: Cast on 2828 (30-30-32) sts on smaller double pointed needles with natural; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 5 cm rib. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 1 (center the pattern on the sleeve), increasing 6-6 (8-10-10) sts evenly distributed on the 1st row = 34-34 (38-40-42) sts. Inc 1 st each side of marker 15-17 (18-17-20) times:
Size 3/4: alternately every 2nd and 3rd row
Sizes 5/6 + 7/8: every 3rd row
Sizes 9/10 + 11/12: alternately every 3rd and every 4th row
= 64-68 (74-74-82) sts - knit the increased sts into the pattern as you go along.
When the work measures 20-23 (27-30-33) cm (adjust for complete pattern), knit 2 rows stockinette st, then knit Pattern 2 with 7 sts stockinette st between repeats (center the pattern on the sleeve), and then knit the rest with stockinette st. When the work measures 27-30 (34-37-40) cm , bind off.
Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams. Pick up approx. 76-86 sts on smaller double pointed needles with natural around the neck; join and knit 3 cm rib, bind off. Sew the sleeves to the body.
