Panthenol is a remarkable active ingredient that is converted to pantothenic acid on contact with the skin. Pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, stimulates lipid synthesis. It thus regenerates the skin's lipid barrier, which can be damaged by environmental conditions such as UV light. A damaged skin barrier causes the skin to dry out and cause redness and irritation.
