The primitive riverside camping is available along the Illinois River in Morris and Starved Rock. They currently feature tent camping, pop-up camping, teardrop camping at their Starved Rock location. The purpose is to give customers that primitive sense of belonging while camping. Their riverside camping is situated along the Illinois River and features sweeping views of Starved Rock State Park and a beautiful sandy beachfront at the Morris location. If you’re going to Shawnee National forest to kayak you should also explore some of the other areas of the forest. Stop by at the Garden of the Gods to enjoy the scenic views and hike on those stunning trails or camp at night with your posse.

Kayak Starved Rock Campground is situated along the Illinois river and features sweeping views of Starved Rock State Park and beautiful sandy beachfront at our Morris location. Campers are welcomed to bring their own kayak for use on the river. If you are not a camper or a kayak renter and just want to enjoy the day kayaking from one of our locations there is a $10 launch fee. Nestled along the picturesque Illinois River, Starved Rock Campground is a nature-lover’s paradise in the heart of Chicago. With over 2,600 acres of stunning natural beauty, this campground offers a diverse range of outdoor activities for all ages and interests.

If you want to explore the other areas of the park you can follow the hike and bike trails. There are also mountain biking trails for those looking to explore the park in a different way. The large lake allows for a wide range of ecosystems to exist in the park, making it a great location for exploring various types of nature. For shorter visits, there are 4 miles of trails available and various picnicking spots throughout the park.
Always check with your physician before beginning any new exercise routine and have regular checkups. All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms. You can also try filtering your search by group type and by parks allowing multiple tents/caravans/motorhomes per site. We kindly ask that guests do not set up tents at our Outpost to help preserve the solitude and seclusion for your neighbors.
We encourage you to stop at sandbars to have a picnic lunch, to trade places in the canoe, or just to take a break from paddling. If you do make such stops along this federally protected riverway, make sure you take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints. Always honestly evaluate your river skills before beginning a trip. A canoe full of water weighs more than a car, but will still float.

This area is in decently high-demand, but it is not hard to see why. A fifteen-mile trail system contain various difficulties of hiking.Fishing and hunting is quite good in the Palisades, making this a perfect base-camp for many sportsmen. This state park stretches along the gorgeous, sandy shores of Lake Michigan for 6.5 miles. The campground offers 241 spots with access to electricity and shower facilities.

Your chances of survival in the water increase dramatically when you have a PFD on. Canyons and Waterfalls – Illinois may be known as a flat state, but visitors to Starved Rock State Park can see a different side of the geography! Some of the most scenic waterfalls are found in the St. Louis, French, Wildcat, Tonty, Ottawa and Kaskaskia canyons, and the best time to enjoy them is in the spring or after a heavy rainfall.

Smallmouth bass, channel catfish, Walleye and Northern pike can all be caught here. Horse rentals are available nearby with equestrian trails throughout the park. Another popular kayaking destination in the Midwest is the Au Sable River in Michigan. This river is known for its clear, clean waters and its beautiful, natural surroundings.
