KRISTIANSTAD – Danish city in Sweden

Суббота, 08 Октября 2011 г. 09:12 + в цитатник

Kristianstad is the residence city of Scania (Skåne) and the landscape's 4th largest city. The city has about 34 000 inhabitants (76 000 in the metro). It is located in the northeast part of Scania. Sweden's lowest point is situated in the city. The city was founded in 1614 by King Christian IV of Denmark, as a symbol of himself and to guard the then Danish province Scania from Sweden. It is still an important military seat. Kristianstad is sometimes called "Lilla Paris" because the main streets are called "boulevards". Kristianstad is also said to be the city with most bats in Sweden and there are many artists in the city.

Tivoligatan. The architecture in Kristianstad looks more Danish then Swedish.

Stora Torg, panorama of the main square of Kristianstad. From the left: Frimurarehuset with Stadshotellet, Rådhuset (City Hall), Heliga Trefaldighetskyrkan (in the back), Stora Kronohuset with the odd figure in front and Borgmästargården.

Stora Kronohuset is a former military building with a courthouse at Stora Torg. The odd white figure in front of the building is the world's largest doll! It is called La Grande Bébé and is 23 meter high. It has also been displayed in Grand Rapids, MI, USA.

Frimurarehuset at Stora Torg from 1884 includes the hotel Stadshotellet.

Rådhuset (the Town Hall).

Stora Torg. Borgmästaregården.

The Regional Museum of Kristianstad.

Some modern art exhibition was going on inside. There are many artists in Kristianstad.

Lilla Torg.

Västra Storgatan, one of the nice main streets of Kristianstad, here a bit abandoned because of bad weather. Summertime it is mostly pretty crowded with people.

The last part of Tivoligatan. Notice the Bar-b-ko sign.

The theater from 1906 in Tivoliparken, drawn by Axel Anderberg.

Heliga Trefaldighetskyrkan, Holy Trinity Church, founded by King Christian IV. It was completed in 1628.

Holy Trinity Church has been called Northern Europe's most beautiful renaissance church.

A grand residential building at Västra Boulevarden.

First Hotel Christian IV from 1901 is most likely the nicest building in Kristianstad.

Christian IV is the largest and most luxorious hotel of Kristianstad, located at Västra Boulevarden.

Västra Boulevarden towards Heliga Treenighetskyrkan.

Kvarnen, formerly Mårten Perhsons Valsqvarn, now offices.

CSK hospital from 1973. At 57m it is Kristianstad's tallest highrise building and is located in the outskirts.

The railway station, behind Trinity Church.

Södertorg, the most modern but less attractive then Stora Torg and Lilla Torg, though pretty ok compared to the ugly square at Domushuset.

Nya vattentornet, the New water tower.

A jugend building in central Kristianstad.

Helge å is flowing through central Kristianstad. Kristianstad's is threatened by floodings, embankments and pumps are protecting the city. In 2002, large parts of the park were under water because of flooding.

Västra Vrams Kyrka, a beautiful and very special church just outside Tollarp, a small town (village) near Kristianstad. It was inaugurated in 1869 after Hugo Zettervall's drawings in neo Gothic style.
