- Foreword. The expression “la fin pas tres glorieuse” is a slightly changed expression taken from a book about the war of 1812 between France and Russia read by the Author in his childhood. This is one of the Author’s favorite expressions.

- The American writer Kilgore Trout (Килгор_Траут) was the person who convinced the Author to continue the “Grisha Konov” (tm) series.

- The Grisha Konov “resurrection” scene is based on the Doc’s “resurrection” scene from the popular film “Back to the Future” (1985) with Martin J. Fox, where Doc put on a bulletproof vest for not to let himself killed by the Libyans.

- The russian/ukrainian proverb translated to French as “Au chien – la mort du chien!” was first noticed by the Author in the second book of the mentioned tetralogy by Volodymyr Malyk (see Trivia #3).

- This short story is a return to the “Quebec public school life” topic and it is the first short story in the series to feature a female character.

- The first short story in the series to feature Grisha’s full name: Grigoriy Vladyslavovych Konov.

- The character of “Elia Kandini” is loosely based on Alina and Emilia – two Author’s female friends in real life.

- Grisha calling himself a rhinoceros is a reference to the book “Rhinoceros” by Eugene Ionescu. This book was greatly appreciated by the American writer Kilgore Trout (Килгор_Траут) and the words “rhinoceros” and “AHHHHH! AHHHH! BRRRRRR! BRRRRR!” became his favorite quotations. The Author liked this idea and used it in the short story as well as in his real life.

- The Author had plans to introduce a female character and Grisha falling in love with this character long before the fourth story was written. However, he planned to create this character for the fifth story, not the fourth.

- The female character first name (“Elia”) was to be pronounced as “Yeliya”, but the Author became accustomed to “Eljja”, because the American writer Kilgore Trout (Килгор_Траут) always used this way of pronunciation in his conversation with him. So, at one point, the Author started using it too.

- The female character first name (“Elia”) is a real existing name (it’s a diminutive of “Elmira” or “Elvira”), while “Kandini” is a fictional name created by the Author. The name “Kandini” is created from the name “Kalini”, which was the name of a girl - a main character in a French short story read by the Author in Accueil.

- The “monsieur Verber” character’s name is based on the Author’s real ITT teacher’s name, which was “monsieur Weber”.

- The toilet fight scene was firstly created for another short story written as a practice for the writing production French exam in the Author’s school. That short story featured another hero and only the main plot element (the toilet attack). In the other story the hero was stronger, so he vanquished his opponents without anyone’s help and won the girl’s love instantly.

- The whistle Grisha is using in this short story is a reference to the whistle the Author had for some amount of time.

- The “Marc Gagnon” character is loosely based on a real existing person by the name of Sebastien, who is the Author’s adult friend in school (although, he is not a security agent). “Gagnon” is a common name in Quebec.

- The fourth short story main plot element never had his equivalent in the Author’s real life.

- Deleted scenes. The toilet attack scene is based on the real toilet attack scene experienced by the American writer Kilgore Trout (Килгор_Траут) in his college’s washroom, though he succeeded in fending off the people who attacked him and in running away. In real life, he used the liquid soap to fend them off, while in the short story Grisha uses water.

- The “monsieur Lafierte” character is a totally fictional character. The Author included him in the story as a relative to the late monsieur Laliberte.

- The word “rosser” was used with the word “violer” in the second deleted scene of the short story this time on purpose. Later, it was once again changed to “battre”, because the Author was tired of this joke.

- The alternative ending is actually the ending of the prototype short story for this “Grisha Konov” fourth story (the one featuring only the main plot element).

- The phrase “Et ca – c’etait le dernier recit sur Mowgle…” is another reference to Alexander Bushkov and his books.

- The Author had plans for the direct sequel to this short story before even he wrote it. This is also the first time the title of the next short story is created instantly after the creation of the previous short story.
