- This short story was firstly written by the Author for the writing production exam in Accueil, featuring another hero (his name was Gaston) and only the main plot element (the murder). The Author got 100% for it, his first and his last 100% in Accueil.
- This short story is completely fictional. The portrayed main plot element never really happened. At last, let’s hope, that it will never happen.
- The Hao depart scene never had its equivalent in the Author’s real life
before the story was written. However, it served as a prediction for a terrible event in the Author’s real life. At one point, his friend Gia Phu Lieu was forced to leave school for a reason other, than his family moving to another apartment. Fortunately, things were arranged and Gia Phu stayed. Ironically, another boy was to be expelled from the school, whose name was Roger
Velasco (a Latin-American).
- The character of Hao was specifically removed from the “Grisha Konov” (tm) series by the Author to show the deepness of the sorrows, one man can experience because of the loss of someone dear to him.
- The phrase “C’etait sa vie… C’etait elle qui le choisit…” is a reference to Salvatore Adamo, a singer well-known in the French-speaking world, mainly to his song “C’est ma vie”, where we can find similar phrases. This singer is the Author’s favorite singer and the named song reflects his life in a great manner.
- The “monsieur Leblanc” character is loosely based on the character of “Jean-Claude Leblanc” from the short story “Midi. Boulevard Rosemont.” (author unknown). Jean-Claude Leblanc was also a criminal in that story, but he was a kidnapper, not a hacker.
- The hitman character is loosely based on the Hitman from the game with the same name and also on the “Leon” character from the film “The Professional”. There’s another reference to the game “Hitman” in the text, which is on the plain sight.
- The first story to feature the Author’s favourite movie/book weapon – the Beretta .92 with a silencer, which is also used many times in the game “Hitman”.
- The “Marc-Andre Lapierre” character is a completely fictional character. The American writer named Kilgore Trout (
Килгор_Траут) supplied his first name to the Author - it was accepted without questioning, because the Author liked this name very much. The second name, “Lapierre”, is a common name in Quebec. There was a teacher named Lapierre in Author’s Accueil, though he never taught the Author.
- The line, where the Author says, that Grisha is to be proclaimed the Hero of the whole City, is actually a reference to the final scene of the PC quest/adventure game “Police Quest I” (of the “Police Quest” (tm) game series created by Sierra), where the city mayor gives a reward to the policeman Sonny Bonds for capturing the drug-dealer Michael Bains.
- Though the “Grisha Konov” character is loosely based on the Author himself, he never dreamt of becoming a policeman.
- The short story is actually homage to the film “The Professional” (or “Leon”) by Luc Besson.
- The feelings experienced by Grisha after the loss of his friend reflect the real Author’s feelings experienced by him because of the loss of his Accueil friends.
- Deleted scenes. The fictional name the killer uses to fool the people in school concerning the person he’s looking for (Lalonde) is a reference to the Author’s fourth secondary mathematics teacher little son, whose name was also Lalonde.
- The J-210 Computer Science cabinet in the story is a real life Computer Science cabinet in the Author’s school.
- The expression “de la part de notre ami commun” is a reference to the French version of the film “Minority Report”, mainly, to the scene, where the doctor gives a drug capsule to John Anderton after the eye replacement operation.
- Leblanc’s stammering is the reference to Guillaume Trusdel L’Heureux, who was an acquaintance of the American writer Kilgore Trout (
Килгор_Траут).
- The first short story to go beyond the “Quebec public school life” topic and to feature a less realistic element.
