This delightfully easy granny square design is perfect for using up leftover worsted weight yarn you have collected. The simple brick pattern can be customized in your own favorite color sequence or make it as random as you like!

Square = 2 3/4 inches
Weave in ends as work progresses.
Join with a slip stitch unless otherwise stated.
Chain-2 at beginning of double crochet rounds counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.
Chain-4 at beginning of double crochet rounds counts as first double crochet and chain-1 space unless otherwise stated.
Make 14.
Rnd 1: With any scrap color, ch 4, join with sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, [3 dc in ring, ch 2] twice, 3 dc in ring, join with hdc in 2nd ch of beg ch-2. (12 dc, 4 ch-2 sps)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in sp formed by joining hdc (beg corner), ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp (corner), ch 1, rep from * twice, 3 dc in same sp beg ch-2 made, ch 2, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2. Fasten off.
Rnd 3: Join black in any corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp (beg corner), *sc in each of next 3 dc, sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in each of next 3 dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next corner ch-3 sp (corner), rep from * twice, sc in each of next 3 dc, sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in each of next 3 dc, sc in next corner ch-3 sp, ch 2, join in beg sc. Fasten off.
Make 119.
Make 2 of same scrap color.
Rnds 1 & 2: Rep rnds 1 & 2 of One-Square Block.
With same scrap color and working in back lps only, sew Squares tog across 1 side.
Hold piece with RS facing and 1 short end at top, join black in right-hand corner ch-3 sp, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in same sp, sc in each of next 3 dc, sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in each of next 3 dc, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next corner, working across next side, sc in each dc, in each ch sp and in Square joining across to next corner, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, working across next side, sc in each dc and in each ch sp across to next corner, (sc, ch 2, sc) in corner, working across next side, sc in each dc, in each ch sp and in Square joining across to beg sc, join in beg sc. Fasten off.
Referring to Assembly Diagram for placement, arrange Blocks. With black and working in back lps only, sew Blocks tog.
Rnd 1: Hold piece with RS facing and 1 short end at top, join black in left-hand corner ch-2 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, *ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * across to next corner ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc) in corner ch-2 sp (corner), **ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc, rep from ** across to next corner ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc) in corner ch-2 sp (corner), ***ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc, rep from *** across to next corner ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 1, sc, ch 1, sc) in corner ch-2 sp (corner), ****ch 1, sk next sc, sc in next sc, rep from **** across to next corner ch-2 sp, sc in same sp as beg sc made, join with hdc in beg sc.
Note: Following row is worked on sides of piece only.
Row 2: Now working in rows, *ch 2, sl st in next ch-1 sp, rep from * across to next corner, ch 1, sl st in first ch-1 of corner.
Fasten off.
Join black in 2nd ch-1 sp of lower right-hand corner of right-hand side, *ch 2, sl st in next ch-1 sp, rep from * across side to next corner, ch 1, sl st in first ch-1 of corner. Fasten off.
Cut 22-inch lengths of black. For each knot of fringe, fold 3 lengths in half, draw folded end through first ch-1 sp on 1 short end of afghan. Pull ends through fold and tighten knot. Tie knot in each ch-1 sp across each short end of afghan. Trim ends even.
