teenagerssittingdesk1.jpg

Working with students from all over the world over the past several years has taught us that international students have a lot of questions about the idea of studying in the UK. Why not, then? A major life event, moving to a new country is an entirely different experience.

The United Kingdom continues to be a popular study destination for many students for good reasons. It is renowned for its outstanding academic programmes, demanding teaching standards, friendly atmosphere, and opportunities for part-time employment. Many international students still have a number of questions about what the experience might be like when they decide to study in the UK . In light of this, let's examine some of the frequently asked questions about studying in the UK.

FAQs Addressed About Studying in the UK

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions (FAQs) that non-UK students have about studying there. Here are some frequently asked questions about studying in the UK, along with their responses.

What Are the Universities' Acceptance Rates in the UK?

Perhaps the most frequent query from foreign students regarding studying in the UK is this one. The acceptance rates at British universities typically change depending on the institution and the degree program you select. Even though international students are generally welcomed at universities and have higher acceptance rates than domestic students, this isn't always the case. The acceptance rate at some colleges and programs can reach 96%, while it can be as low as 8% at other institutions.

Although there isn't a clear answer to this, it's useful to know that the average acceptance rate for British universities ranges from 44% to 8%, with Computer Science being the most difficult degree to obtain in the country. To determine which university is the safest choice for you as an applicant, you can ask the institution of your choice about their acceptance rates for particular programs.

What Does It Cost to Study in the United Kingdom?

Although there may be many questions on their minds, this one frequently tops the list of frequently asked questions about studying in the UK . In the UK, the cost of a bachelor's or master's program includes both the tuition and living expenses. While undergraduate and graduate tuition in the UK typically costs between £12594.46 and £18521.26 per academic year, the cost of living will vary depending on where in the country you choose to study. In England, the average cost of living while attending school is about £12,100.

However, compared to the rest of the nation, studying in London is significantly more expensive, costing about £13,400. Additionally, you can anticipate a lower cost of living, which will cost you about £10,100, if you decide to study in Wales. Read more about the price of attending college in the United Kingdom here.

What English Language Requirements Are There for Studying in the United Kingdom?

Another common FAQ that prospective international students who want to study in the UK ask is this one. No specific English proficiency is needed to live in the UK, but some universities do have requirements for IELTS or TOEFL scores.

It is best to inquire in advance about the English language requirements at your target universities so that you can plan appropriately. Obtaining this information from your top choice university as early as possible in the application process will give you plenty of time to organize your test preparation accordingly and easily achieve the required score.

Do International Students Have the Chance to Work Part-Time?

Given that degrees in the UK are frequently expensive, this one raises a crucial question for many students. You may work up to 20 hours per week as an international student during the academic year and 40 hours per week during the summer.

Are there any scholarships available for students from other countries?

Nearly all British universities provide applicants with scholarship opportunities. Some of these scholarships are awarded based on your credentials and achievements, while others are based on your financial need. In addition to scholarships, many universities in the UK provide grants and loans to foreign students in order to help them finish their degree programs.

The majority of financial aid provided at British universities helps students pay their tuition. However, some colleges also provide grants and loans to aid students in meeting their living expenses.

What options are there for on- and off-campus lodging?

Prior to arriving in the UK, international students frequently need clarification on a number of issues, with housing options constituting one of them. International students want to know where they will live in advance, so this is another frequently asked question about studying in the United Kingdom.

Most universities in the United Kingdom charge international students an additional fee for housing (in addition to the tuition fee), and if there is a shortage of housing on campus, the student support staff can direct you to various private, off-campus housing options that are frequently a more affordable option for international students.

Do I Need Health Insurance in the United Kingdom?

Due to the significantly higher cost of healthcare in the UK, students visiting the country on student visas frequently worry about having health insurance.

While studying in the UK, international students are not necessarily required to have medical insurance. The reason for this is that they have access to NHS facilities by merely paying the £150 annual student medical services fee that is included in the visa application fee when applying for the visa.

How long does it take to process a visa?

A UK student visa takes roughly 4–8 weeks to process. Typically, it takes 4 to 8 weeks from the date your application was submitted to receive a student visa. But each person's situation is unique, and processing times can change from case to case.

Are There Special Requirements for Students Under the Age of 18 to Study in the UK?

Students who are 16 or 17 years old and applying for the General Student Visa (Tier 4) must have written permission from their parents or guardians. The consent should state that you are free to travel and live independently as well as the identity of your guardian in the UK, who will be in charge of you until you turn 18 years old.

Last Words

Of course, these are not all of the questions that international students might have about studying in the United Kingdom. In the majority of our events and seminars with international students and UK university partners, we frequently get a lot more people. We have provided answers to them in this post because they are still the most crucial ones.

A general piece of advice for those considering studying in the UK is to be proactive and have a forward-thinking mindset. You can anticipate a smooth transition from your home country to the university and program of your choice in the UK when you plan ahead and get in touch with reputable consultants like AHZ Associates.

Top Universities in the UK Accepting Duolingo | Study In The UK

Вторник, 09 Мая 2023 г. 10:27 (ссылка)

In today's globalized world, learning a new language is becoming increasingly important, especially if you want to pursue higher education abroad. Due to the fact that studying in the UK is becoming more and more popular every day, many international students are eager to improve their English language skills before starting their academic journey.

As a result, the language-learning platform Duolingo has recently gained a lot of recognition, and there are now many UK universities that accept Duolingo tests instead of the IELTS and TOEFL.

We'll examine the world of UK universities that accept Duolingo in this blog post. We will discuss the DET's objectives and how it differs from other assessments of language proficiency and study techniques. Additionally, we will offer a comprehensive list of UK universities that accept the DET as evidence of English proficiency, along with their requirements and average scores.

This post will provide you with useful information about language testing and the growing use of Duolingo in British universities, whether you're an international student considering pursuing higher education in the United Kingdom or simply want to improve your English language proficiency. So let's get started.

The Duolingo English Test is what?

The Duolingo English Test is a tool for determining a non-native English speaker's level of proficiency in the English language. There are numerous universities in the UK, US, Canada, and other nations that accept students from abroad who are interested in studying there.

In Duolingo's computer-based assessment, the four skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking are all measured.

The advantages of a Duolingo test

International students who wish to pursue their studies in English-speaking nations have shown a preference for the Duolingo English Test (DET) over more conventional tests of language proficiency. The following are just a few of the benefits of taking the Duolingo test:

Widely accepted:  Academic institutions of higher learning all over the world, including the UK, are gradually opening up to the Duolingo test. When applying to universities that accept it, students can use the test as proof of their English proficiency.

Convenience:  One of the best things about the Duolingo exam is how simple it is. Students can take the test at home rather than in a testing facility by finding UK universities that accept Duolingo. They only require a computer, a webcam, and internet. Students may benefit from this since they will save money on transportation costs and can take the exam whenever it is most convenient for them.

Cost:  The Duolingo test's affordability is yet another benefit. The test costs $49, which is considerably less than the fees for language proficiency tests like the TOEFL and IELTS.

Testing that is adaptive:  The Duolingo exam's questions are adaptive, which means that their level of difficulty changes in response to the student's performance. As a result, questions that are either too easy or too difficult do not discourage or demotivate students.

Results quickly:  Within 48 hours of taking the Duolingo test, you can view your results. Since they are not required to wait several weeks for their test results, this is very beneficial for students who must submit their test results for the purpose of their application.

Conditions for a Duolingo Test

Students are expected to have at least a basic command of the English language because of the test's format. A series of questions will be used to assess your speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills as well as your reading comprehension. The Duolingo English Test (DET) has some requirements in order to be taken at UK universities that accept Duolingo.

The following are the most significant ones:

Valid identification:  Before the exam, students must present government-issued identification with a photo, such as a passport or a driver's license.

Students taking the DET must do so from a computer with a webcam, a microphone, and an active internet connection. The exam is taken online, and students' webcams and microphones are used to record the test session and verify their identities.

Technical requirements:  Students must have access to a computer with a current web browser and operating system in order to take the exam. Information on which web browsers and operating systems are allowed can be found on the DET website.

Exam location:  Exams should be taken in a quiet, well-lit, and distraction-free setting. They are not permitted to enter the testing room alone, and they are not allowed to leave it at any time.

Payment:  Each student must pay $49 to take the exam. Payments can be made using a debit or credit card.

Generally speaking, you won't need to spend much time preparing for the Duolingo English Test. Students only need a government-issued photo ID, access to the internet, and a quiet place to take the exam.

United Kingdom Universities that Accept Duolingo

The Duolingo English Test is accepted as documentation of English language proficiency by a number of universities and colleges in the United Kingdom. The following institutions' required minimum Duolingo English Test scores for enrollment are listed below.

University Name & Minimum Score

  • Bangor University & 85

  • University of East Anglia & 115

  • University of Bristol & 110

  • Queen's University Belfast & 95

  • University of Southampton & 120

  • Middlesex University & 75

  • University of Lincoln & 100

  • University of Portsmouth & 105

  • University of Glasgow & 105

  • University College London & 135

  • University of Surrey & 120

Duolingo's English test's scoring methodology

The Duolingo English Test (DET) has a score range of 10 to 160. On a scale from 5 to 160, the reading, writing, speaking, and listening portions of the exam are each given a separate score. A final score is given after the scores for each section have been computed.

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), a standard for proficiency in languages that is widely accepted, served as the foundation for the scoring system for the DET. The CEFR consists of a total of six levels, starting with A1 (beginner) and moving up to C2 (proficient).

The DET scoring system operates as follows:

Each section of the reading and writing tests is graded on a scale of 5 to 160. Your grade is determined by how correctly you respond.

Speaking:  The speaking is graded on a scale of 5 to 160. The accuracy, fluency, and clarity of the student's portion of speech are taken into consideration as certified human graders record and evaluate their responses.

Listening:  A scale from 5 to 160 is used to grade the listening portion of the exam. Points are given for accuracy on multiple-choice questions based on audio recordings.

To calculate the overall score, the scores from each section are added together and rounded up to the nearest whole number. Cranfield University Overview

englishbookrestingtableworkingspace1.jpg

Cranfield University, unlike other UK universities, is a postgraduate public research institute with over 4000 students enrolled in degrees in science, engineering, technology, and management.

Over half of Cranfield University's students attend classes on a part-time basis. More than half of the student body is over the age of 30.

According to the Higher Education Statistics Agency, Cranfield graduates make up the majority of UK engineers with a master's degree in engineering. According to the same source, the university is the best in the world for aerospace, transportation, and automotive engineering. (2018/19)

Cranfield University is ranked fifth in the United Kingdom for mechanical, aeronautical, and manufacturing fields by QS World Rankings 2020. Other world ranking institutes and university guides, such as Times Higher Education, The Times, The Guardian, and others, do not list Cranfield University as a postgraduate educational institute.

Cranfield University's History

Cranfield University, one of the leading engineering postgraduate research and educational institutes in the UK, was founded in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics. The Cranfield Campus was founded on a Royal Air Force base in Bedfordshire, England.

The university underwent numerous developments over the next two decades, with Roxbee Cox (Lord Kings Norton) serving as vice-chair and chair. It helped with aircraft research and design. The university broadened its scope by establishing the Cranfield University School of Management, as well as a manufacturing faculty.

The Royal Charter and degree-awarding powers were granted to the College of Aeronautics in 1969. It was also renamed the Cranfield Institute of Technology, elevating it to the level of a full-fledged university.

Silsoe College was formed by the merger of the Institute and the National College of Agricultural Engineering over the next nearly 20 years. In addition, the university collaborated with the Royal Military College of Science. Cranfield University was renamed after another amendment to the institute's Royal Charter was made in 1993. The UK university admitted its final batch of undergraduates in 2003 and became entirely post-graduate.

Cranfield has evolved into one of the UK's best post-graduate universities, with excellent taught and research programs available through the Aerospace School, Transport and Manufacturing School, Water School, Energy and Environment School, Management School, and Cranfield Defense & Security School.

The Cranfield campus is near Cranfield, Bedfordshire, and is part of the Cambridge-Milton Keynes-Oxford corridor. In addition to academic and research facilities, the campus has its own airport, hotels, recreational facilities, housing, and on-campus nurseries and preschools for students' families.

Achievements and Rankings

Cranfield University, as a fully postgraduate institution, does not appear in traditional league tables.

However, in the 2021 Financial Times European Business School Rankings, its Cranfield School of Management was ranked among the top 10 business schools in the UK and 34th in Europe.

Furthermore, in the full-time MBA ranking for 2021, its full-time MBA program is ranked 5th in the UK and 60th globally.

Furthermore, our business school's triple accreditation and frequent recognition in global rankings place us in the top 1% of the world's elite business schools.

While the Cranfield campus has a bank, post office, shops, and bars, students can find more recreational opportunities in Milton Keynes, Bedford, and Oxford.

Cranfield students have access to industrial and large-scale facilities such as cabin evacuation, flying, welding, sol dynamics, and biomechanics labs, off-road testing facility,

equipment crash testing facilities, flight deck simulator, oil and gas engineering rigs, experimental farm, and more, in addition to a thriving social life on and off campus.

With three libraries, over 200 research databases, 22,000 e-journals, and an extensive collection of books, software applications, learning tools, computing facilities, and specialist support, the university has also dedicated resources to its library and information services.

living quarters

Students who choose to live on campus in dorms have a variety of options, including self-catered and catered halls for various budgets. Students can also choose between en suite rooms and flats with shared bathrooms. Because more than half of the population is over 30 and already employed, family homes and apartments are also available on a short-term basis.

All accommodation types, from shared halls to flats, are fully furnished and have internet access.

transportation

The campus is close to Cranfield Village, Milton Keynes, and Bedford. Students can travel between these locations using Uno buses and other bus connections. If you want to go to London, you can do so in 45 minutes using the mainline railway services.

All campus facilities are within walking distance and can be reached on foot. The airport of Luton is also nearby. Aside from that, students can use car-hailing services like Uber to get around campus.
