How to Find the Right Gym

Hunting for a gym can be a trying experience--however, simply selecting a gym "out of the blue" can become a major road block to your fitness program. It is really very simple: Why would you go some place that makes you uncomfortable or is not to your liking? The answer is: "You wouldn't!" In this article I will cover the basics to help you select a gym that matches your needs--which should also help you to meet your fitness goals.

things you'll need:
A simple review of gyms in the area in which you live and/or work

Instructions

  1. Make a list of "absolute" qualities you want in a gym. This list should be what is really important to you. For example: cleanliness, equipment, location and cost. You may not be able to find a gym with every single absolute you want, but you will be able to narrow it down and make a more informed decision.
  2. Be realistic about what is available. Remember, you most likely will not be able to match every amenity on your list; however, you should try to match the most important ones. If you simply select a gym because of price (a major mistake) and the gym's attributes do not match your needs, you will most likely waste your money by not going.
  3. When exploring a gym, do not be afraid to ask direct questions of the person showing you around. The questions should flow from your list. Take notes if you want, and never assume anything. One of the most important areas to look at is the locker room. Do not make the mistake of just poking your head and thinking that it "looks just fine." Examine the locker room qualities that are important to you such as privacy issues, cleanliness and showers.
  4. Always look at the equipment (e.g. free weights, machines, cardio) of a prospective gym. A gym's equipment should fairly match your fitness plan. Also, look at the quality and condition of the equipment. Do not be shy about asking the gym manager to try reps on a machine to check for machine quality and level of maintenance.
  5. Cost is clearly important and it needs to be within your budget; however, there are a few questions that you should always ask when inquiring about the cost. These include:
    • Can I put my membership "on hold" for a length of time if you necessary due to illness, family[1] issues or any other reason? If yes, is there a time limit, added cost involved or other policy that I should know about?
    • Is the gym going to be running a "special" soon? It is very frustrating to pay full price for a gym membership, only to find that two weeks after joining you could have saved money.
    • Does the gym give discounts to certain people or organizations? This may include being a senior, family discounts, AARP and even AAA.
While cost is always important; remember, it should not be the only factor for selecting a gym. You are wasting your money if you select a gym solely on price only to find out that the gym does not meet your needs. Staying home will not help you get into shape.
  6. Inquire about the staff. How many of their staff members are certified trainers? This is important not only in helping you work out correctly, but for your safety at the gym. A good portion of gym personnel should be trainers who are also certified in CPR/first aid, should you need help.

Tips & Warnings

  • Talk to other gym members or people you know who go to the gyms you are thinking about. Getting an active member's opinion is a wise idea.
  • Location is critical. The gym should be conveniently located to your needs. A gym that is out of the way of your home or workplace is going to add a burden to your fitness plan.
  • Look at the contract/offers and see what is the best deal for you.

How to Become an Actor or Actress

To be a successful actor you really have to have a passion for the craft and the patience to wait for the big break. Although being an actor is extremely rewarding, finding work can be a challenge. The profession requires great commitment and fortitude.

Instructions

  1. Decide whether you want to be a professional actor (addressed here) or an amateur. If you want to be a professional, read on.
  2. Move to a major city. Eventually, New York or Los Angeles will be your destination, but as you build your resumé of experience you can work in other major metropolitan areas that have good theater or film communities.
  3. Enroll in acting class. Good actors study their entire lives. To choose a good class, ask trusted, successful professionals for references.
  4. Get a headshot (see "How to Get a Headshot," below).
  5. Compose a resumé of all the work you have done so far. As your body of work grows, drop the less professional work (such as school plays) from your resumé.
  6. Send your headshot and resumé with a brief cover letter to all the casting directors and agents in your area. Follow up with postcards every four to six months, updating them on your current acting projects.
  7. Read the trade papers regularly: "Backstage," "Dramalogue," "The Ross Reports" and "Variety," as well as online publications such as newenglandfilm.com, as appropriate. Know what is being cast where, and send headshots and notes directly to directors and producers whenever possible, requesting auditions.
  8. Always accept invitations to industry events and parties, and meet industry professionals whenever possible. Who you know is extremely important.
  9. Persevere.

Аноним (Learn_English) все записи автора Studying from textbooks is one method to help you learn native English.
Learning English as a second language is a challenging feat. To learn native English you will have to devote hours of study and concentration overcoming your fears about speaking a new and unfamiliar language. However, there are various methods to help you learn English that way natives speak it to facilitate learning the language. Utilize techniques such as studying, reading, listening and immersing yourself in the language to help you learn native English.

Instructions

1. Read English. The best books for reading English when you are a beginner is to start with simple children's books. The sentences, as they are meant for early readers, will be much simpler. Try ESL (English as a second language) books as another option. Study these books often and pay attention to spelling, grammar and vocabulary.

2. Listen to English. The best way you can learn to speak English like natives is to listen to them speak it. Whether it be in conversation, audio books or watching English television, listening to English will help you pick up native English quicker than mere studying from text books.

3. Write down new words that you hear. Practicing writing English will help your writing skills, which will enhance your speaking skills. Write down new words that you do not know or understand, so you will remember to look them up later. Try to incorporate the new words into your conversation.

4. Talk to native speakers. This will help you pick up on the slang, practice your English in conversation with people who will know if you are making mistakes and will enable you to ask questions about words or phrases you do not understand. Visit an English-speaking country and immerse yourself in the language.

5. Practice the language. A hindrance to learning native English can be the fear of speaking the language in public for worry that you will make a mistake in conversation or embarrass yourself. You need to be constantly speaking the language in to learn and perfect it, so always practice despite the fear that you may be saying something incorrect. Practice will eventually allow you to overcome fear.

6. Use an online resource. There are plenty of websites that offer free resources to learn English, including reading and listening exercises and lesson plans to help you learn the language.

7. Take a formal class. An ESL class can be one of the most effective ways to learn native English. The instructor will be able to help you learn English by providing English-language exercises, workbooks and reading materials. You will be able to ask questions and learn from your classmates. Research English language classes in your area.
